As someone with a big sweet-tooth, I regularly crave sweet treats and chocolate. The great thing about making chocolates at home is that you can control exactly what goes in them.
Most of the sweetness of this recipe comes from the dried dates. Look for ones that are preservative-free, or else you may get a strange aftertaste.
This recipe uses “black” or alkalized cocoa powder to off-set the strong coconut flavour, but you could easily swap out the coconut oil for cocoa butter or the “black” cocoa powder for any cocoa/cacao powder of your choice. This recipe also works well for flavoured chocolates.
I have made variations with a few drops of pure peppermint oil, a teaspoon of instant coffee, and the zest of an orange. The possibilities are endless!
